Most people enjoy a good glass of wine especially from a matured bottle. Most of these wines are made with grapes, but have you considered drinking a good glass of wine made from oranges? These fruits are a great source of Vitamin C; however oranges also make a unique wine. Rottcher Wineries situated in White River have stepped out of the norm and have produced some of the most delicious wines made from Valencia Oranges.

These oranges grow in fertile and well-irrigated Crocodile River Valley. Avelencia Wine is truly a unique blend but the aroma and taste is amazing. Rottcher Wineries is no stranger having been around for over 50 years. The Rottcher family were the first family to establish the Sonnengold Orange Winery which was the first orange winery to be recorded in 1916. Kurt Rottcher who was a grandson of the missionary started the process of making wine from oranges.

Rottcher’s Orange Wine is one of the legends in wine making. The oranges are fermented in the same way grapes are fermented thus using the same method of wine making. The product is a great wine with only 14.5% alcohol. The wine is served as a dessert or port and is a great alternative to a sherry. The wine is also enjoyed in a spritzer.

Rottcher orange wines are sometimes confused with wines from the Orange River wine region, Avalencia Wine is really in a class of its own. Rottcher Wineries offers free tasting of Avelencia, there’s also the Avelencia-ginger wine. Avelencia can also be purchased at the Rottcher Wineries Cellar.
